Buitenmuur is a temporary structure exploring the relationship between simple architectural forms, the human body and the surrounding landscape. A corner creates the suggestion of an inside and outside, different wall heights invite different ways of sitting and standing, and an opening frames the landscape without belonging to a building.
The forms are deliberately simple and familiar, but never quite resolve into one thing. The structure can be read as architecture, furniture or sculpture, while individual elements have been compared to a bench, bath, trough or flower pot. This ambiguity leaves room for people to approach and interpret it in their own way.
Built at full scale from aerated concrete blocks and plaster for Folly Art Norg, Buitenmuur was installed outdoors for a month and made to be walked through, sat on and climbed on.
