Minecraft × Hiker is a wearable shoe that combines the blocky geometry of Minecraft with the construction and details of a hiking shoe. The foot sits inside a much larger geometric shape, allowing the shoe to follow the body where necessary without looking like the shape of a foot from the outside.
The upper is built around an existing shoe and paired with a cast silicone sole. Silicone was chosen to keep the oversized sole flexible enough to walk on, rather than treating the shoe purely as a sculptural object.
Made during a two-week footwear workshop, the project focuses on how far the familiar shape of a shoe can be changed while still being recognizable and wearable.
